Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they indicate for your site?
If you wish to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you can activate password protection for a specific folder - either the main Internet site folder or a different one below it. Whenever this function is activated, a pop-up will appear each and every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login info will be required for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have secured only the domain.com folder. If the details are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way of getting around this restriction, so you can be sure that no one shall be able access the shielded content. The function may be helpful in various cases - if only a number of people should be able to see certain files, if you are creating a website and you do not want people to see it before it is completed, and so forth.
Password Protected Directories in Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites within a hosting account with our company. You shall not have to do anything complex - you'll have to select a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login details, there won't be a problem to make a variety of different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this function is enabled. If you want to disable the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the Control Panel in which you have enabled it.
