If you'd like to point a domain address that you have to another domain name or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's forwarded to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site that you've created, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since such a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added such a record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll aid you with this task. If you have created a site through another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your Control Panel.
